Our Work: Aroostook House of Comfort

Aroostook House of Comfort

Aroostook House of Comfort (AHOC) provides end-of-life care and family support across Aroostook County. Their communications prioritize human connection, respect, and trust. Since July 2018, VC Print has supported the Aroostook House of Comfort with website development, content support, and print production for campaigns and publications, working closely with leadership to ensure clarity and consistency across platforms.

The Challenge

The Aroostook House of Comfort needed a communications foundation capable of supporting sensitive, mission-centered storytelling across annual outreach, donor communications, and public education. The website needed to function as the central hub while balancing the needs of families, healthcare partners, donors, volunteers, and the broader community. As campaigns and publications expanded, AHOC required a system that could remain warm and compassionate while also clear, organized, and easy to update year after year.

Project Highlights

The communications framework developed for Aroostook House of Comfort extends across digital, print, and campaign materials. Beginning with the website and visual foundation, the system expanded to include publications and fundraising initiatives that support the organization’s yearlong outreach. The following highlights illustrate how these materials work together to communicate the House’s mission while maintaining a consistent tone and visual identity across platforms.

Website and Brand Foundation

The first phase of work with the Aroostook House of Comfort focused on building the digital and visual foundation that would guide all future outreach materials. The website was developed as the central hub for information, storytelling, and community connection, designed to provide clarity while acknowledging the emotional circumstances families may be facing when seeking hospice care. The tone emphasizes warmth, reassurance, and accessibility so visitors can quickly find the information they need while gaining a deeper understanding of the House's mission and role within the community.

Alongside the website, VC Print developed supporting brand standards to ensure consistency across both print and digital materials. These standards define typography, color palettes, and layout, creating a calm, approachable visual language that reflects the values of comfort and dignity associated with hospice care. An organized image library was also established to support ongoing communications and ensure that photography and visual elements remain consistent over time.

Together, the website structure and brand framework provide a stable platform for Aroostook House of Comfort's communications across multiple channels, enabling the development of new materials while maintaining a cohesive visual identity.

Publications

With the foundational structure established, the next step was to extend the visual system into printed publications that keep donors, families, and community members connected to the House's mission. Annual reports and seasonal newsletters serve as key communication tools, sharing organizational updates, highlighting community support, and reinforcing the impact of hospice care in Aroostook County.

Design for these publications focuses on clarity and readability while allowing space for meaningful storytelling. Strong typographic hierarchy, balanced page layouts, and carefully integrated imagery guide readers through the content while maintaining a respectful, approachable tone. Layout structures are designed to evolve so that new content can be incorporated each year without losing visual continuity.

Campaign and Event Materials

Community engagement and fundraising initiatives require a range of materials that support both outreach and participation. VC Print develops campaign creative and manages print production for several recurring AHOC initiatives, ensuring that event and campaign materials remain visually aligned with the broader identity established through the website and publications.

Materials created for events such as Walk for Hospice and the Annual Golf Classic support promotion, registration, and on-site visibility, helping create a cohesive experience for participants while reinforcing the House's mission. Fundraising initiatives, such as the annual Giving Campaign, rely on carefully structured mail materials that communicate the importance of donor support and encourage continued community involvement.

Additional pieces, such as the Naming Opportunities booklet and Remembrance Way materials, provide information on legacy giving and recognition opportunities and help donors understand how their contributions support the long-term sustainability of hospice care in the region.

Together, these materials help the Aroostook House of Comfort present a clear, unified message across fundraising campaigns, community events, and donor communications.
